GFM Live Webinar: Meet The Manager – Wilson Asset Management – WAM Microcap Fund

We would be delighted if you would join us on Wednesday 9th December at 10.30 am for a webinar on the WAM Microcap Fund.
Paul Nicol, our Managing Partner, will host our special guests Oscar Oberg and Tobias Yao, who are Portfolio Managers at Wilson Asset Management for the WAM Microcap Fund.
WAM Microcap provides investors access to a portfolio of undervalued microcap growth companies with a market capitalization of less than $300 million at the time of acquisition. It also provides exposure to relative value arbitrage and market mispricing opportunities. WAM Microcap’s investment objectives are to deliver a stream of fully franked dividends, provide capital growth over the medium to long term, and preserve capital.
Investors appreciate the benefits of investing for the long-term in high-quality companies. However, little is said about the benefit of finding those high-quality companies early on in their growth phase.
Microcap describes the smallest investable stocks on the share market. We are attracted to the Microcap space for several reasons:
• It is a large and diverse universe:
Banks and major resource companies dominate the top 100 stocks on the ASX. Conversely, the Microcap universe is very diverse. Microcap companies often focus on one market, product or niche. Fund managers can position their portfolios to take advantage of attractive themes.
• It provides an opportunity for excess returns due to poor coverage:
Microcap companies are generally too small for institutional investors to deploy their resources. Consequently, Microcaps are often insufficiently researched. This lack of institutional following means Microcap stocks prices may not reflect their intrinsic value.
• It provides access to early-stage companies which are growing their earnings strongly:
Microcap companies can have high growth rates. Their products might be newer; they might be gaining market share or expanding into new markets.
Microcap companies can provide investors with growth that is not necessarily dependant on prevailing economic conditions given they have relatively new products and services that might be at an early stage of their life cycle.
• Microcaps typically have more focused management and board:
In a Microcap company, the Management and Board usually own a large percentage of stock. High insider ownership helps align management interests with those of shareholders.
• It is a hunting ground for corporates:
Microcaps are more likely to be targets of takeover activity than large caps. This means their prices can jump on any takeover offer, and investors can benefit.
We encourage you to pass on this webinar invite to family, friends or colleagues who may wish to join.
