On Tuesday, 21st May 2024, we held our Estate Planning lunch seminar at Leonda by the Yarra on this important topic. Our special guest presenters were Jennifer Dixon and James Dimond, Practice Leaders at Moores.

The seminar focused on a range of Estate planning topics, including Wills, the Significance of Asset Ownership, What assets are covered, roles and applications of Powers of Attorney, Superannuation, Estate Disputes and Elder Financial Abuse.

This seminar was extremely popular, and the feedback was excellent. Everyone appreciated the opportunity to attend such a valuable and insightful presentation.

We held our Market Update & Outlook for 2024 Seminar on Wednesday 15th November at Riversdale Golf Club. The seminar covered investment market activity during 2023 and the outlook for 2024.

Our special guest presenter on the night was James Holt, who is the Head Investment Specialist for Equities at Perpetual.

We were very fortunate to have James presenting for the eighth year. James has worked in the financial services industry for over 20 years. He has presented to numerous audiences of advisers and investors and has appeared in various media, including CNBC, Sky News and the ABC. His articles have appeared in multiple publications, including the Journal of Investment Strategy.

James discussed the key themes for 2024 and provided a detailed overview of the global economic backdrop, and how this is likely to affect investment markets over the next few years.

This seminar was well attended. Clients appreciated the opportunity to chat with James afterwards, and catch up with the team.

As this was our last seminar for the year we concluded the evening with some celebratory drinks and canapés. Our team enjoyed the opportunity to have a drink and a chat with our clients.

On Monday 1st May 2023, we held our Quarterly Business Lunch at Leonda By The Yarra where we provided an insight into our views of the economic environment and the research and investment selection process we undertake to select appropriate investments.

Our financial advisers, James Malliaros, Patrick Malcolm and Paul Nicol discussed the following topics:

• An economic update and outlook
• Our preferred investments in the current market environment

We held our first Quarterly Business Lunch for the year on “Investing for yield in a low-interest rate environment” on Monday 9th May at Leonda by the Yarra. It was fantastic to see so many clients and guests join us for our first face to face event since February 2019, just before being locked down in March of that year.

The presenters on the day were GFM advisers – James Malliaros, Patrick Malcolm and Paul Nicol.

Their presentation provided an in–depth insight into our research and investment selection process, and a deep dive into investments that are suited for a yield orientated portfolio.

The topics covered included:

• With so many available investments, how do we filter down which companies or investments to research?
• The GFM research process
• What available tools do we (GFM) have to give us the edge when selecting investments?
• Why a reliable and growing yield is essential when in the retirement phase
• Our preferred investments for a yield orientated portfolio

The feedback from attendees was positive, with 95% rating the relevance/usefulness of the topic as “Excellent”.
